Storyline Generational Sins

Two estranged brothers are brought back together by the death of their mother. Her dying wish is to see them return to their birthplace and reunite with their abusive, alcoholic father. They set out on a journey that leads them to their hometown full of dark memories that the younger brother doesn’t remember and the older brother wants to forget. As each brother reconnects to the town and its people, they struggle to find the meaning of home, both for those who stay and for those who leave. Ultimately, they must confront the memory and the man of their father and are forced to choose between forgiveness and bitterness. 'Generational Sins' explores themes of home, grace, and forgiveness and how these ideas impact the decisions we make and the ramifications they have on people’s lives.

If you are personally experiencing the effects of what you believe to be generational sins, we encourage you to speak with your local church leadership, to audibly renounce and confess all personal and familial sins, and to claim the forgiveness and freedom that is available in Christ.

Rough and uneven, Generational Sins is not the sort of film that will be passed along from father to son. It is, however, an adequate vehicle for MacPherson to demonstrate what he's capable of, and that's worth watching.

GENERATIONAL SINS AND CURSES Are They Biblical? QUESTION: Recently I was asked to discuss the Bible's teaching on the subject of generational sins, and generational curses. This is the view that the sins of past generations, and God's punishment of them, can extend down the years, and directly affect our welfare today.

The concept of generational curses, also called generational sin, originated with Exodus 20:5 and is also found in Ex. 34:7, Numbers 14:18 & Deut. 5:9. In these passages the Lord describes visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Him. That doesn’t mean...

We are not told how the father’s sins become the children’s sins. That is a mysterious thing left in God’s mind. But they do. What we are told is that when father’s sins are visited on the children it is because the children have become sinners like the fathers. The father’s sins are the children’s sins. So no innocent child has ever been punished for a father’s sins; only guilty children are punished and are guilty of the very sins that their fathers sinned.

A generational curse was a consequence for a specific nation (Israel) for a specific sin (idolatry). The history books of the Old Testament (especially Judges) contain the record of this divine punishment meted out. Recommended Resource: Overcomer by David Jeremiah
